We’re 10 years old now, if you can believe it. I certainly can’t.
We published our first edition of Dublin Inquirer, online, on 3 June 2015, from a basement office in Harold’s Cross.
We’ve grown to 7.5-ish staff (a mix of part- and full-time). We’re still committed to quality journalism, week after week. We’ve run training courses, live-news events, talks, pub quizzes, food tours, community-engagement projects.
Academics have pointed to an “alarming decline” in local publications across Europe, and two local newspapers a week have closed in the United States over recent years. There is the continuous threat of lawsuits.
Despite our growth, or even because of it, we are acutely aware of these challenges facing independent media. We are, frankly, a bit shocked we’re still here all these years on.
But mostly, and genuinely, we are grateful to our subscribers (like you?) for making that possible. We know we still have more people to reach. So if you would like to celebrate this milestone with us, we would ask that you tell someone you think may appreciate local news where to find us.
