T?his month’s cover, “Toxic Consumption”, is about how our oceans are so contaminated with plastic to the point where we’re literally consuming it. Plastic can take anywhere between 450 to 1,000 years to decompose and out of the 260 million tons of plastic produced each year about 10 per cent will end up in the ocean.

We live in an age where it’s simply not enough to recycle plastic, we have to reduce it. We all have a duty to reduce our plastic waste, and there are many ways you can do that. Consider buying food that’s not wrapped in plastic, purchase a reusable coffee cup, and get a drinking bottle.

I’m an illustrator inspired by social issues and the importance of representation. In my art you’ll find people of colour, usually depicted in empowering and bold ways. To see more of my work please visit my IG or Twitter account @zolwia, or check charlotkristensen.com.
