“I was lying in my hospital bed and I just kept thinking, ‘God, please don’t let me die. I want to live to see the dump gone,’” says resident Annette Flanagan.
Just a typical day in Dublin, another historical establishment, community space or beloved landmark being knocked down to make room for a hotel or luxury apartments.
I decided to pay homage to a classic B-movie poster and set it in Dublin. This 50-foot woman loves Dublin city and wants it to stop being destroyed by capitalist greed and allow its culture, arts and community to flourish. She rips out overpriced, unnecessary hotels and pulls out a wrecking-ball crane from the skyline. In her fury she steps into the Liffey by mistake – ruining her giant new shoes. A small price to pay for vengeance, but now she’s really mad.

“Pitched as ‘avante hyperpop’, her music can sound like what Mariah Carey might cook up if she spent more hours hanging out in video arcades and reading radical literature.”
