But councillors wonder whether the new-ish Residential Zoned Land Tax will prompt Dublin City Council to build more homes – or just push it into selling off its lands.
The recently published report from the government's Local Democracy Taskforce recommended that if it does, it should get the money back.
The council's current pipeline shows about 11,000 new homes in the works from 2027 to 2030 so far, well short of the target of 19,400.
