F?or this month’s cover, I took inspiration from the Liberty Market in Meath Street, Dublin 8. My idea was to reflect the atmosphere, stories, and snippets of conversations I had with Liberties residents like Joseph Sweeney, who is shown here.
From a family with a long history in Dublin, he had near him photos and Mass cards of previous traders, and a nod to Iveagh Market on Francis Street, where his grandmother worked for years.
Liberty Market is a place full of warmth and fun. People sit together, and enjoy being part of a wider family. It was truly a pleasure to listen to stories from Marie Carey, Joseph Sweeney, and his sister Miriam Sweeney.
