“I don't think I can ever get used to living in the city, actually,” said one participant. “So when I heard about this opportunity, I was like, ‘Okay, this sounds like a real thing.’”

Several councillors welcomed the plans – but raised issues around gentrification, and the lack of a role for councillors in feeding into, or overseeing, tourism plans.
Recommendations range from relocating the Garda station and improving public lighting, to developing a “historical military quarter”, to bringing in an education and learning campus.
“I found a lot of my songs through songs of Irish chivalry and old books and I had to come up with airs that hadn’t been sung for centuries,” says Sean Fitzgerald.
While it varies from school to school, some teachers say they face low pay and precarious work. They hope this joint labour committee might bring improvements.
The council, which owns the mill, is planning a public consultation on what to do with it. One group is already working on a plan to restore it to its original use.
A low-emissions zone is an area from which vehicles with high emissions, or major polluting vehicles, are banned – or which they are charged a fee to enter.
“I never used to play Arabic stuff out, and then I slowly started to introduce random songs,” says Jamal Sul. “I started to realise that people actually liked it and I thought, ‘That’s weird.’”
At a recent meeting of the South Central Area Committee, these were among the issues discussed – along with traffic in the Tenters/South Circular Road area.
