In Ballymun, locals rally to save Axis café, but the figures look grim
With large losses last year, the Axis centre’s reserves will be gone by the middle of next year, says its voluntary chair Declan Dunne – unless something changes.
In the area around the centre, the number of people over 65 years of age has increased significantly, according to the most recent CSO data available. There are ways the centre could be more accessible for older people, locals say.
The HSE has cut the group’s funding and is also looking to use the rooms in the building they’ve been operating from.
Engineers were tasked by the council with working out what’s there. None of the pollutants they found present a significant human health risk, according to the report.
Last Thursday, a big digger dipped its mechanical arm into the back of a truck, grabbed some rubble and scattered it around.
