More than 900 people are on waitlists for addiction supports in Ireland’s prisons
The longest queue is in Dublin’s Mountjoy, where more than 240 people languish on the waitlist for counselling for substance addiction.
“Equity budgeting”, which some other cities – such as Toronto – use, involves constantly asking during the budgeting process how proposed changes would affect existing inequalities.
“Value can’t be just measured by profitability,” says the CEO of one credit union. “We are looking to start a different type of conversation. We are asking what really are credit unions?”

With a drop in rates and other revenue streams – and the need to ramp up some services – the council will have to turn to a bail-out from central government, say councillors.
“Now, let me know if you see anybody because I certainly don’t,” says Brendan Fox, over a WhatsApp video call, his camera pointed to the road.
