From a Dublin base, an anti-caste influencer grows a global audience
In less than two years, Amit Wasnik has attracted tens of thousands of online followers with his posts focused on the life and ideas of BR Ambedkar.
There is debate over whether there is a shortage of residentially zoned land and what’s holding homes up.
“When you see Songkran in Thailand, it’s like a big water fight,” Chanthima Ostijn says. Not so much here in Ireland, though. “It’s just too cold.”
Some say that the different types of tenure should be laid out in master plans or zoning to meet the housing needs in an area.
“We’re held to ransom Monday to Friday, from early morning to night,” says Dolores Kinsella. “I tell people all the time, I live in a car park.”
Storm Darragh damaged the roof in December. The council has said the “closure will be lengthy” – and pointed to plans for a new pool nearby.
“More people, definitely. We need more people,” says Barry Bryan, who thought up and started Symbi.
But Transport Infrastructure Ireland, which runs the M50, says the toll revenue is needed to pay for to operate and maintain it.
The Department of Housing has vetoed the council’s designs for the Herbert Simms-designed Pearse House in the south inner-city.
This comes a few years after it rolled out a previous IT system that was supposed to include this function, among others, and went millions over budget.
The event on Sunday was organised by Latina Women Against Violence, a group founded to reach women impacted by gender-based violence.
Plans include 3,500sqm of granite paving, 11 more trees, 10 public benches, and a bronze sculpture by artist Helen Hughes.
The years-long process has included harnessing gases coming out of the waste to generate electricity – and the council’s looking at adding a solar farm too.
